About Emma

Emma is mostly a self-taught watercolour artist. In 2022, after 23 years of working in Education and bringing up her family, she moved on to her next adventure; cruising the English canals and waterways. Her travels have inspired her artistic style and subject matter, and continues to do so as she explores the country from on her narrowboat ‘Waratah’ with her husband, David.

About boat life

“My current life aboard my narrowboat provides me with endless inspiration for my artwork” Emma says. “The beauty of the natural world and the ‘grittiness’ of urban landscapes, influences me greatly. I’m constantly learning and pushing myself to improve, and the tranquillity and slowness of life on the canals allows me to do this.”

About Emma’s artwork

Emma, although not formally trained, received tuition from artists in South Africa and Dorset. Her work has been frequently described as having a “good a use of light” and “a spontaneity”. She says, “I continuously explore and experiment with the medium of watercolour and I love to connect with the local communities on the canal with my art”.
